Why glamp at Magpies?

Sutton Park is parkland, not a muddy field, but the bus back to York stops running before the music does. Glamping fixes that.

What past guests and the BBC say

Magpies is now in its 6th edition. We've pitched 1000s of bell tents at weddings and festivals across the UK.

Magpies is beautiful parkland 9 miles north of York. The accommodation question is not just the bed price; it is whether you can walk back to sleep when the music ends. Figures below exclude festival tickets.

Common questions about staying at Magpies Festival

Show all 23 questions
  • How do I get to Magpies Festival from York? +

By car: ~20 minutes north on the B1363. Free on-site parking via Gate A. By public transport: take the Number 40 bus (Coastliner / TransDev) from York Railway Station, around 25 minutes, ~£3-5 single. Last bus back is early evening, so pre-book a taxi for late departures (Station Taxis York: 01904 707070).

  • Is there parking at Magpies Festival? +

Yes, free on-site parking via Gate A.

  • Is Magpies Festival family-friendly? +

Yes. Multiple reviewers describe the festival as a small, friendly, family-vibe event in beautiful parkland. Under-5s are free, 6–10s are £22, 11–17s are £40.

  • What's the camping like at Magpies Festival? +

Festival camping is on level, well-drained Sutton Park ground - mud is rarely a real issue. Bring-your-own-tent camping is £20 per person on top of the festival ticket. Or skip the setup and book one of our pre-pitched bell tents.

  • What time does Magpies Festival finish? +

Music finishes Saturday evening; campers stay until midday Sunday. Pack-down for our tents is 11am Sunday.

  • Is it cold at night? +

August is usually fine. Bedding sets include a duvet, and tents zip fully shut. Cold sleeper? Add a memory foam mattress and a bedding set - you'll be warmer than most people in their hotel.

  • What if it rains? +

These tents have stood up to a lot. Integrated groundsheets, sealed seams. We've never had a guest get rained on inside one. Sutton Park drains well.

  • Where are the toilets and showers? +

Toilets are plentiful on the festival site, well looked after. There are no on-site showers - Magpies is a 2-day event. Plan accordingly or stay close-by post-festival.

  • Is it noisy? +

It's a folk festival in parkland, not a rave, generally calm by midnight. The Luxury Package includes ear plugs and an eye mask in the welcome pack.

  • Can 4 friends share one tent? +

Yes, and it brings the tent cost down to £67.50-£127.50pp for the weekend depending on package. Each 5m tent sleeps up to 4. Strict limit for safety.

  • Can a couple share? +

Absolutely. Two memory foam mattresses pushed together make a king-size bed.

  • What if I need to cancel? +

Full refund if you cancel 14+ days before the festival. No refund inside 14 days. Full T&Cs in your booking confirmation.

  • What if Magpies Festival is cancelled? +

Full refund or transfer to another date.

  • Do I still need a festival ticket? +

Yes. Glamping is your accommodation, not your festival pass. Weekend (£78), Friday (£37), Saturday (£52) plus the £20pp camping pass - book on the official Magpies Festival site.

  • When do bookings close? +

Friday 7 August 2026, 7 days before the festival. Tents often sell out before that.

  • Can I book just Saturday night? +

No - we pitch the whole tent village on Friday and pack down on Monday, so single-night bookings aren't possible. Your tent is yours for the full weekend either way.

  • I've left it late - is anything still available? +

If you're reading this before 7 August, yes, most likely. Click any tent above, hit Book and you'll see live availability. If something's sold out we hold a small waitlist; reply to your booking email if you want adding.
